The Allard J2X 2219 is one of only 80 produced by the Allard Motor Company factory. This particular work of art was specially ordered by renowned road course driver Erwin Goldschmidt, who won the 1950 Watkins Glen Grand Prix. Upon arrival in the United States, highly modified a Cadillac 331 V8 was sourced from Detroit Racing Equipment.

The results served as the basis for Cadillac introducing a “tech-bulletin” for conversion of the standard 331 motor to the Hi-Output DRE (Detroit Racing Equipment) version. This car was featured in the Sept. 22, 1952, edition of “LIFE” magazine. It was campaigned in 1952 by Goldschmidt, after which it disappeared for more than 50 years.

The Allard was discovered in pieces in 2002, and later underwent a seven-year restoration using period photos and documentation, including a full-page photo of J2X 2219 from “LIFE” and the Cadillac “tech bulletin” announcing a high-output 331 motor, among other historical documentation.
