Building on the success of the 550 Spyder, the 1958 Porsche 718 RSK features improved handling and performance.

With a more refined suspension and a potent four-cam engine, the 718 RSK secured impressive results at events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Targa Florio, further establishing Porsche's dominance in motorsports. Porsche built the first 718 RSK in 1957, gaining its name from the K-shaped arrangement of the front torsion bar tubes on the prototype car. Porsche made a total of 34 RSKs over a three-year period, comprising 10 Works cars and 24 customer cars. The 718-004 was built in May 1958 to be used by the Works team at the forthcoming Le Mans 24 Hours race. The car was driven at Le Mans by factory driver Richard von Frankenberg and French rally champion Claude Storez.
