Based on the BMW Turbo Concept, the M1 is the only mid-engine BMW built until 2014. The M1 is the first fully conceived product of the new BMW Motorsports GmbH, under Jochen Neerpasch and designed by Georgetto Giugiaro. This M1 is No. 282 of 453 built between 1978 and 1981 in order to homologate it for racing.

Only 54 were built as M1 Procars. M1s are powered by a twin-cam 3.5 liter, six-cylinder M88 motor, capable of delivering 273 horsepower and a top speed 162 mph. No. 282 has won multiple concours awards – including class wins at The Amelia, Hilton Head Motoring Festival, Highlands Motoring Festival and Euro Auto Fest – and is frequently driven on tours and rallies.

It is believed to be the world’s most-traveled M1, sold in the UAE, then to California, Seattle, Fort Lauderdale, South Carolina and Munich – where it underwent restoration by BMW Classic before heading back to South Carolina.
